The Kurilpa Poets present
Sunday 27th May, 2pm,
91 Cordelia Street,
“..And these our Actors fade into the Air..into thin Air”
– W. Shakes-speare
This month the Water Rats take flight as we present the Fourth in our Elemental Themed events, Investigating in our Poetical/Alchemical Fashion the Properties and Collective Cultural Concepts of the ancient Element of AIR.
So we therefore encourage those of you inspired by our Theme,
to bring any airy-fairy, head-in-the-cloud verse, quotes you want to float, wind-bag writings, thought-bubbles or word balloons
that you have to share
concerning the subject
of the Element AIR.
The Madcap Returns!
One of Brisbane’s most unique Poetic Performers,
Offbeat but somehow strangely Upbeat, this month’s Feature Poet marches always to the beat of his own drum.
SAVANU’s Poems are atonal algorithms, zen-like masterpieces of twisted logic and warped clarity.
Autistic Cross-words with a Sucker-Punch-Line.
Oh yes, he delivers his verse with the Wide Open Eyes of a naive Innocent, but he smiles the smile of a very old Crocodile.
In Performance SAVANU punctures his poems with his wry, sardonic laughter, as if he alone can ever get the joke. Indeed, his laughter has been described as, “the Laugh of the only Sane Man left in a World gone Mad”
and chances are, by the end of his Set,
you’ll be laughing like that too.
May Mystery Musician
This month’s Mystery Musician has deep roots in West End Culture.
Pat, usually seen, as vocalist/ guitarist for local, gritty rock outfit “HAWKMOON” is proud to proclaim that his moment of Inspiration to become a musician was while watching POWDERFINGER playing live on Vulture Street back in 2003. Since then he’s honed his skills playing many a gig and releasing an album, “The Saturn Return” in 2017.
You can hear Pat and Hawkwinds music and learn more about them here, hear? ..
Now Pat is flying SOLO for the first time for the Kurilpa Poets,
this Sunday 27th May. Be sure to have your boarding ticket
and be at the gates on time to witness the solitary Moon Hawk in flight.
Unsuspected Artist of the Month;
Our Visual Arts Director has got a real treat lined up for us this month on the virtual gallery’s Big Screen,
as we feature the surrealistic Cartoon Art
of the Creator of the Zany KRAZY KAT cartoon strip.
Featuring the antics of Crazy the Cat and anarchistic, brick-throwing mouse Ignatz against an ever shifting, alien landscape, Herriman’s strange and surreal visions inspired later generations of under-ground cartoonists to go nuts.
MC FIONA PRIVITERA
Putting this month’s line -up together
and stepping up to the Mic as Ringmaster General of the Kurilpa Circus
& Mistress of Ceremonies
is non-other than esteemed
Kurilpa Cup Winner, Fiona Privitera.
Hopefully Fi will also have some of her own wry words
of dry wit & wisdom
to share on this occasion.
And as alway there’ll be Two Open Mic Sessions, where all-comers are welcome to share their words & thoughts, Free Food & Refreshments, Free Onsite Parking, Friendly Company, Great Music and thought provoking Ideas. All this and more for a mere $5! So come and join us this Sunday ‘neath the sacred trees of Musgrave Park.
And also as always we suggest the community-minded could bring a bottle or a packet or a plate of something nice along to add to the Feast. Finally, while we encourage people to bring something to read, be it their own work or others, verse or story, the main thing is to just bring Yourself!
